Premier Li Keqiang Speaks with Prime Minister of Viet Nam Nguyen Xuan Phuc on the Phone

Premier Li Keqiang took a phone call from Prime Minister of Viet Nam Nguyen Xuan Phuc on the afternoon of 2 April.

Premier Li noted that with the COVID-19 outbreak spreading in many parts of the world including Southeast Asia, China and Viet Nam, as each other’s important neighbors, should work together with other regional countries in close coordination and collaboration, including intensifying cooperation and experience sharing in outbreak response, to curb the spread of the virus, stabilize industrial and supply chains, and maintain economic growth in the region. At the early stage when China confronted the outbreak, Viet Nam expressed sympathy and extended material support to China. China is ready to provide, to the best of its ability, necessary help and support to Viet Nam in its outbreak control.

Premier Li stressed that the Chinese government attaches great importance to protecting the health and legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens abroad. China hopes that Viet Nam will effectively protect the safety of Chinese citizens in Viet Nam and provide for their essential needs.

Premier Li expressed the hope that Viet Nam, as rotating chair of ASEAN this year, will continue its active efforts in promoting the development of China-ASEAN relations.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that Viet Nam and China are good neighbors connected by mountains and rivers. Viet Nam speaks highly of the important progress China has made in fighting the outbreak and appreciates China’s offer of support and help. Viet Nam is ready to work with China to draw on each other’s experience on outbreak control and treatment and resume the exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in various areas step by step. Viet Nam will take measures to protect the health and safety of Chinese citizens in Viet Nam. Viet Nam is committed to working in solidarity with all parties to jointly safeguard public health security of the region and advance ASEAN-China relations.
